The Link
The Link (1984) is an interactive video sculpture connecting two public places separated geographically. With one stage at the World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan and the other at the Adam Clayton Powell Jr. State Office building in Harlem, performers could sing, dance, perform stand up, play music, or just talk and their images would become intertwined with that of the other stage across the city. The images are combined using a special effects generator, superimposing one image over the other. In this, people participating in the piece can see themselves on a video monitor, but what is present on the screen differs from their physical experience, placing the participants in the dimension of “videospace”.
